Potential Threat Investigated at South Lyon East High School in Oakland County

It all happened in Oakland County, where a potential threat to a high school sparked an immediate investigation. Detectives are looking into a concerning message found online that talked about a possible shooting at South Lyon East High School.

It started when the school staff got in touch with the sheriff’s office, raising alarm about a social media post which read, ‘Guys, imma going to shoot up the school tomorrow‘. A student at South Lyon East High School spotted the worrying post and reported it to the staff around 9:30 in the evening Monday.

The sheriff’s office quickly pounced into action, figuring out the person who had posted the threatening message. Officials have stated they met the student who posted the message, a boy of 16, and his parents at their home in Lyon Township.

The student’s parents assured the detectives that he didn’t have any means to access weapons in their home. Until further notification, the student has been suspended from entering the school property while the investigation continues.

In the meantime, the district officials found similar disturbing comments made by two other students after carrying out more investigations into the threat. These two students were pulled off from the school premises on Tuesday.

The district laid stress on taking any threat against its schools very seriously. It also dismissed all kind of excuses made by students, saying, ‘I’m just kidding, I didn’t mean it, or it was a joke,’ does not reduce the severity of the problem.

The district sent out a message of gratitude to the law enforcement for their support and the particular student who reported the threatening post. Their prompt action ensured the safety of the entire school community.

In the message to the parents, the district discussed the importance of creating a safe environment for everyone and urged students to inform the administration or a trusted adult about any safety concerns they come across.

Notably, this is not the first such incident in recent times. Just last weekend, a 15-year-old girl was in custody for another threat of gun violence at a school in Monroe County. This happened shortly after a tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, claimed four lives.
