Sponsor Our ArticlesWith less than 100 days until the much-anticipated 2024 Presidential election, a significant shift has occurred. Last week marked the announcement of President Biden’s decision to withdraw from his rematch re-election against former President Trump. This surprise move came after significant pressure from within the Democratic Party following a poor performance in the first presidential debate held last month against Trump.
Unexpectedly, Biden immediately endorsed his vice president, Kamala Harris, triggering a surge of endorsements for Harris by high-ranking Democrats, including governors, senators, and House members. Within a day and a half following Biden’s announcement, Harris declared her secured nomination for the presidency, citing the backing of a majority of the nearly 4000 delegates to the upcoming Democratic National Convention.
Former President Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama showed their support for Harris, endorsing the vice president last Friday. Furthermore, Harris astonishingly raised $129 million in campaign funding following Biden’s announcement, signifying her strong financial backing leading into the campaign.
Despite initial polls indicating a slight advantage for Trump in the weeks following their debate, the withdrawal of Biden and Harris’s ascension to the candidacy has led to a revisit of a tight margin-of-error race. Political experts now affirm that America is bracing for a highly competitive Presidential election.
In Trump’s first rally since the dramatic shift in the presidential race, he didn’t hesitate to launch an attack on his new opponent. In his campaign held in North Carolina, he referred to Harris derisively as “lying Kamala Harris”, attempting to depict her as the “most incompetent and far-left vice president in American history”. His views portrayed Harris as a significant threat to the nation, with intentions to decimate it should she ascend to office.
However, Harris was not reticent in defending herself and her stance. Emphasizing her impressive law enforcement background, she highlighted Trump’s many legal issues, including his recent 34 felony convictions – the first criminal trial of a former or current president. In her speech at her campaign headquarters, Harris assured the American public of her strength and resolve in dealing with individuals such as Trump, referring to her past in dealing with perpetrators of various forms.
With 100 days remaining to this momentous election, the exchange of words this past week on the campaign trail is just a taste of the firestorm to come. As the nation anticipates the climax of a deeply altered presidential race, both camps are preparing to give their all for the ultimate prize – The White House.
