Following feedback from fans, each of the six teams now features unique names and vibrant logos reflecting their city’s culture and heritage. From the Boston Fleet to the Toronto Sceptres, the new branding aims to enhance community connection and excitement around the league. With merchandise launching soon and a strong community focus, the PWHL is set to make a significant impact in women’s sports.
Big news for hockey fans! The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) is ramping things up ahead of its second season. After kicking off its inaugural season in January 2024, the league has decided it’s time to give each of the six teams some fresh identities complete with custom jerseys and logos. Gone are the days of just sporting a color and city name. Now, it’s all about standing out and making a statement!
Fans who flocked to games last season, nearly 400,000 strong across a whopping 72 matches, spoke loud and clear—they wanted more than just a name and a color scheme. The PWHL listened and made the bold move to introduce unique team names and vibrant logos that reflect the heart of each city. The excitement is palpable, and it feels like a whole new chapter is unfolding.
To spearhead this branding project, the PWHL’s VP of marketing, Kanan Bhatt-Shah, worked alongside the talented folks at Flower Shop, a New York design agency. Together, they put in about three months of hard work to develop branding that resonates with both the teams and their fans. It’s clear that the team names and logos are not just arbitrary choices; they are deeply rooted in local history and culture.
So, what can fans expect? Here are the six teams with their brand-new identities:
Each team’s logo is uniquely crafted, pulling from local architecture, seasonal themes, and cultural elements. For instance, Boston’s logo features a stylized “B” that resembles an anchor, capturing the essence of its maritime heritage. In contrast, Ottawa’s logo is electrified in red and yellow, showcasing both vibrance and energy.
Keep your eyes peeled for hidden elements, too! Montreal’s logo has a subtle blue “M,” while New York’s design cleverly incorporates a blocky “NY” graphic nestled behind its wordmark. These silhouettes tell stories that fans will cherish.
Fans eager to gear up can rejoice! The new team jerseys are available for purchase online and set to hit stores this Thursday. Each jersey proudly displays the team logo on the front and features eye-catching striping details. Plus, there are alternate colorways to consider, giving fans plenty of options to show off their team pride.
The PWHL is not just about hockey; it’s about creating a community and establishing a presence in the sports world. With this branding effort, the league aims to legitimize itself further, ensuring its visibility continues to grow, along with the support from fans. As we approach the second season, the excitement couldn’t be higher!
The PWHL is gearing up for a major transformation, and fans have plenty to look forward to. With unique team identities and vibrant logos, the league is set to make its mark! So, whether you’re a die-hard hockey lover or new to the sport, mark your calendars, gear up, and get ready to support your favorite teams in style!
