Road Rage Shooting Halts Traffic on I-96 in Livonia
On Friday night, a bout of road rage escalated into a shooting event, causing the shutdown of a segment of eastbound I-96 in Livonia. Traffic near Middle Belt Road was swiftly diverted onto Schoolcraft at the Middle Belt exit, from where drivers could slip back onto the freeway at Inkster.
This was not an ordinary occurrence on our highways. The incident, which saw two shots being fired on the freeway, spurred an immediate closure for an investigation. By a stroke of luck, there were no reported injuries stemming from this incident.
The aftermath of the shooting saw traffic come to a standstill for a brief period. However, Livonia police soon had things under control. Police spokespersons announced at 10:15 PM that regular traffic resumed after the closure was lifted.
Incidents such as these remind us of the importance of maintaining calm on the road. Motorists are urged to display good road etiquette and avoid escalating heated situations. For now, it appears that normalcy has returned to I-96, with commuters able to move through the Middle Belt region unimpeded.
