Countryside, IL – A Beloved Community Member Remembered

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Scott W. Walker, a resident of Countryside, Illinois, who left us on January 29, 2025, at the age of 68. Scott’s journey came to a peaceful end at the Adventist University of Chicago LaGrange Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.

A Life Full of Adventures

Scott was born on March 27, 1956, in Woodstock, Illinois, to Perry and Doris (Freund) Walker. Growing up in McHenry, Illinois, he enjoyed a familiar small-town upbringing that would shape his kind-hearted nature. His academic journey saw him graduate from McHenry Community High School, where he undoubtedly made lasting memories with friends and classmates.

Beyond his early years, Scott dedicated himself to serving his country in the United States Army. This experience not only instilled in him a sense of duty but also a profound respect from those around him. He later transitioned into civilian life where he followed his passion for the outdoors.

Passion for the Outdoors and Sports

Scott was known for his love of fishing and exploration, often seen spending joyful days in the picturesque Smoky Mountains. Whether reeling in the biggest catch or soaking in the beautiful scenery, Scott found peace in nature. He was also an avid sports enthusiast, wearing his heart on his sleeve when it came to his favorite sports teams. He passionately cheered for the Chicago Bears, sharing the excitement of game days with family and friends.

A Loving Family Man

On June 7, 1986, Scott married the love of his life, Diane Hodgen, at Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City. Their love story blossomed over the years, filled with shared adventures and countless cherished moments. Together, they built a close-knit family that Scott adored.

Scott leaves behind a wonderful family, including his beloved wife Diane, four brothers—Perry (Rae Jean) Walker of Naples, FL; Jim Walker of Albuquerque, NM; Joseph Walker of McHenry, IL; and Bill (Brandy) Walker of Urbana, IL. He is also survived by sister-in-law Georgene Walker of Northville, MI, and brother-in-law Ron (Gail) Hodgen of Morris.

A Legacy of Love and Remembrance

Scott’s warmth and humor touched everyone he met, and he will be deeply missed by those who had the honor of knowing him. His uncle and godfather, Melvin Freund of Phoenix, AZ, was also an important figure in his life. Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Doris, as well as his brother Edward Walker and nephew Brandon Walker. The loss of his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Russell and Eleanor Hodgen, also weighed heavily on his family.
