Livonia, MI – Get set folks! Nothing less than an NBA superstar is opening a brand-new chicken restaurant right in the heart of Livonia. The former space that housed one renowned celebrity chef’s chicken restaurant is being taken over by another legend, none other than the NBA great Shaquille O’Neal, co-founder of Big Chicken.
Shaq’s newest venture is set to fling open its doors at 30130 Plymouth Road sometime in October. The eatery is taking over the space of Chicken Guy!, a restaurant run by popular celebrity chef Guy Fieri. Unfortunately, Chicken Guy! had to shut down earlier this summer after a year of serving the folks in metro Detroit. It stood as the only Chick Guy! in the area.
Big Chicken is rather well-known for its unique and mouthwatering sandwiches, a variety of sides, and lip-smacking shakes. One of the signature items from the house is the “Shaq Attack”, a heavenly combination of fried chicken, pepper jack cheese, jalapeño slaw, and spicy chipotle BBQ sauce. Another crowd-pleaser is “The Ultimate”, which layers fried chicken with mac and cheese, crispy fried onions, and a delightful garlic BBQ aioli.
But it’s not the end of the game here. Big Chicken, it seems, has some serious expansion plans in Michigan. The Livonia spot is only one among the roughly 20 stores Big Chicken is aiming to launch across the state, as mentioned by restaurant officials. Earlier this year, the very first Big Chicken in Michigan had already started clucking in Clio. And then there’s one at 10490 Highland Road in Hartland.
