Stephen King’s Remarks on Trump-Harris Debate Garner Widespread Attention

Famed author Stephen King recently expressed his viewpoint on the upcoming presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, causing a stir on social media.

Trump’s Announcement of Change in Debate Date and Broadcaster

Donald Trump, previous U.S president and current candidate for the upcoming elections, has drawn considerable flak for his attempts to modify the terms of the forthcoming debate with Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump revealed in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, that his debate with the Democratic nominee, Harris, will transpire on September 4 in Pennsylvania and will be broadcast by Fox News. This change has been a cause of contention as Harris’s campaign advocates for the debate to take place on September 10 on ABC News, a slot initially arranged for a debate involving Trump and President Joe Biden.

Prior to this, Trump had declined to debate with Harris, justifying his decision by stating that she was not the formal Democratic candidate at the time. However, Trump seems to have had a change of heart, saying “I’ll see her on September 4th or, I won’t see her at all”. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the “hundreds of millions of dollars, time, and effort” invested in his campaign against Biden, who withdrew his re-election bid last month.

Stephen King’s Viral Commentary

Stephen King, a renowned author renowned for his gripping novels and a frequent critic of Trump, took to social media to voice his critique of Trump’s indecision concerning the debate dates. Calling Trump “chickens**t,” King alleged Trump is afraid of a face-off with Harris. King’s post quickly caught the internet’s attention and so far has over a million views and more than 6000 shares.

Responding to the criticism, Steven Cheung, a representative of Trump’s campaign, disregarded King’s critique by expressing, “Who cares what Stephen King has to say. He hasn’t been relevant since the 80s.”

In addition, King shared another post on the same evening, accusing Trump of “running scared” and attempting to back out of the debate he had previously agreed to.

Kamala Harris’s Response

Harris rebutted Trump’s protests about the ABC debate, stating, “It’s interesting how “any time, any place” becomes “one specific time, one specific safe space.” I’ll be there on September 10th, as he agreed to. I hope to see him there.”

Simultaneously, Trump is engaged in a lawsuit against ABC News for defamation. The lawsuit was filed following comments made by ABC News host George Stephanopoulos in an interview with Republican Representative Nancy Mace. Stephanopoulos asserted that Trump had been deemed guilty of “rape” in his legal tussle with writer E. Jean Carroll. The court ruled in Carroll’s favor, ordering Trump’s liable for sexual assault and defamation against Carroll, and rewarded her $83.3 million in damages.

King’s Endorsement for Harris

King has been a vocal supporter of Harris since she became the favourite for the Democratic nomination. On August 1, he appealed to Republicans to “hold your nose to vote for Harris,” branding Trump as dangerous and comparing him to a child throwing a tantrum. He further asserted, “There’s only one adult in this contest. It’s Harris.”
