Tragedy at Michigan State Fair: 14-year-old Killed in Shooting

A 14-year-old boy lost his life in a shooting that took place at the Michigan State Fair in Novi this past Saturday. Investigations by local police reveal that the violence was not a sudden flare-up, but seems to be a continuation of an ongoing dispute.

The young boy, identified as Darean Davis, was a 10th grader studying at University High School in Ferndale. His death was confirmed by the school superintendent, Camille Hibbler, who sent out letters to the parents breaking the heart-wrenching news.

She stated that Darean “died in act of gun violence” and asked everyone to keep his loved ones in their thoughts and prayers.

Another 14-year-old boy was also a victim in this shooting. He was injured but is now recovering, set to be released from the hospital Tuesday. The hospital’s identity is currently undisclosed by the authorities.

The Novi Police are still looking for the suspect and are gathering more information on the issues that led to this shooting. Cmdr. Jason Meier pointed out that the beef did not start that night at the fair. He assured the public they are working continuously to investigate and solve this case.

According to Meier, a fight broke out between two groups at the fair, after which a gun was pulled out and shots were fired.

The school district, anticipating the emotional upheaval this incident could cause among students and teachers, has activated crisis teams to help anyone affected by Darean’s loss. Counselors are poised to help students who might need someone to talk to during these difficult times, the superintendent said.

In response to this incident, state fair organizers took preventive measures to ensure the safety of attendees. They boosted the police presence, shortened opening hours, and placed restrictions on minors for the remaining two days of the event.

Meier informed that aside from the tragic shooting, the rest of the weekend “went great” and there was no other major incident.

If anyone from the public has information that could be helpful in this investigation, specifically video recordings from the night of the tragic incident, they’re being urged to contact their local authorities.
