Officers Indicted for Abandoning and Endangering Children

Two years after the tragic shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, that claimed the lives of several students, two police officers are facing charges regarding the delay in the police response on that fateful day. Adrian Gonzales and Pete Arredondo, with over 370 other officers, were part of the response team on May 24, 2022.

A grand jury charged both officers with abandoning and endangering the children who were holed up with a gunman within the confines of the Uvalde elementary school. The prosecution posits that his failure to engage the gunman before backup arrived had led to this moment. His counterpart in this case, Arredondo, effectively served as the incident commander throughout the event. He opted to wave his right to attend this hearing, but submitted a not guilty plea through court filings.

Despite this assumption, a traumatic 77 minutes transpired before a tactical team, spearheaded by federal Border Patrol agents, took the initiative and neutralized the gunman.
