Sponsor Our ArticlesIf you’re around the Westland area, you’re in for a real treat this Wednesday night. ICP’s Violent J, also known as Joe Bruce, is headed to the Token Lounge. He’s not there to rap or crack jokes, though. Instead, he’s dipping into his past and dishing out some dazzling anecdotes at his fresh show – “Story Time with Violent J”.
This gig isn’t new. Violent J debuted it last December at the One Night Stans Comedy Club in Waterford. There, he made it crystal clear from the start that attendees shouldn’t expect a comedy show. So, what’s on the menu then? He’s recounting real stories from his life, tales that have left a mark on him and made him chuckle.
Don’t get it twisted, though. These tales aren’t your standard jokes with a setup and punchline. They’re based on Violent J’s numerous adventures in the music industry, on the road, and even in the pro wrestling ring. Each story is tied together by a singular theme – standing up as an outsider.
Joining him on stage will be Ouija Macc, an artist signed to ICP’s record label, and Colt Cabana, a pro wrestler turned podcast host. They’ll add some spice to J’s narrative, guiding him through the stories while placing their own inputs.
What inspired this storytelling gig? Turns out, it was veteran pro wrestlers like Mick Foley, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, and the Undertaker, who turned their inside-the-ring experiences into fantastic live one-man shows.
Coming back to J’s gig, last time, he planned for a 45-minute show. However, he got so consumed in the story-telling that he went on for two and a half hours! But don’t worry, this time around, he promises to cut back on time.
This show is just the start of a four-city tour, with stops in Columbus, Joliet, and Indianapolis. So, if you’re 18 or over, come on down to the Token Lounge at 7 p.m. this Wednesday. Tickets are just $30 – grab them quick!
In other news, ICP’s 24th annual Gathering of the Juggalos festival is on its way this August in Thornville, Ohio. This festival promises a mix of performances, eating contests, and even a Juggalo meditation event.
On top of all this, Violent J is also working on launching a weekly pro wrestling event dubbed “JCW Lunacy” and is slowly cooking up ICP’s new album, their first since “Yum Yum Bedlam” hit the charts in 2021.
We’re pumped to see what Violent J has to bring to the table with his numerous ventures, and his Wednesday night storytelling gig looks to be the perfect starter. We hope to see you there!
