Former Wayne-Westland Community Schools Superintendent Steps Down Amidst Financial Controversy

In Westland, in a surprising turn of events, John Dignan, the former superintendent at Wayne-Westland Community Schools, stepped down from his position a month ago. The local Board of Education officially accepted Dignan’s resignation in a meeting held on August 19. Post the meeting, a letter was circulated among the school community to inform them of this development.

“The terms of the Agreement were a joint decision by all parties involved“, said the School Board President, Bradley Gray. “We extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Dignan for his contributions to the District as well as the community.” It is noteworthy that Dignan, who joined the school in 2020, was placed on administrative leave in June. He has been under the scanner for allegedly leading the school into a $28 million budget deficit in the last academic year.

Following Dignan’s exit, Jennifer Curry, the assistant superintendent of the district, has taken charge as the acting superintendent. Gray said, “We would like to take this opportunity to thank Jennifer Curry, our acting Superintendent. She, along with her capable team, has been tirelessly working towards preparing for a successful academic year ahead.”

According to Gray, “Despite the recent events, the Wayne-Westland school district continues to progress under Curry’s effective leadership. The entire team is devoted to their mission of ensuring that all students grow into informed, responsible, and contributing citizens of the global society.”

The school authorities are yet to inform about the procedure that will be followed to appoint a new superintendent. We commit to keep our readers informed about any new updates on this subject.
