Good news folks! The city of Wixom has successfully completed a massive construction project. The one we’ve all been watching unfold on Grand River from Napier Road to Wixom Road is finally done.

The cool guys at the Road Commission for Oakland County, along with our very own City of Wixom pulled off a $5.4 million project. This was all kicked off on April 1st, and the goal was to make that heavy-traffic road safer and easier to use. Well, it looks like they nailed it!

Being all geeky and hands-on, they milled off the old pavement and went on to repaving with asphalt. They didn’t stop at that. Nope, they also upgraded the drainage system, paved some parts of the road shoulder, and installed a groovy continuous center left-turn lane from Napier Road to 12 Mile.

They also made sure to give some love to our friends with disabilities. They upgraded the pedestrian crosswalks to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Now that’s simply awesome, right? That’s sure to make the traffic flow smoother and safer for everyone using the road.

Further, the traffic signals at the intersections of Grand River and Napier Road and at Grand River and 12 Mile got a complete makeover. Modernized to enhance both safety and efficiency, indeed a welcome change for everyone in the city.

Now here’s the kicker – during the whole operation, they managed to keep traffic flowing on Grand River, to keep the disruption for us folks to a minimum. Such nice guys!

They tell us there’s some touch-up work to be done. Mainly, this is to restore grassy areas behind the curbs. You might see some lane closures while they do this. But don’t worry, they promised these would be brief and wouldn’t mess up too much with the traffic.

So, kudos to everyone who was part of this massive project! Certainly feels good to see our tax dollars being put to such productive use. So, Wixom folks, do check out the brand-new look of Grand River and enjoy the smoother, safer rides!
